Petition to the University Student Council: Restore Basketball and Softball to the WMSU Palaro 2026 Roster
Basketball and Softball are foundational collegiate anchor sports that drive inter-college participation, student body morale, and WMSU athletic tradition.
We, the undersigned undergraduate and graduate students of Western Mindanao State University, present this urgent petition to mandate the University Student Council (USC) to formally adopt, sponsor, and table an official resolution to the University Administration.
Why This Matters: Preserving Anchor Sports & Student Morale
Basketball (Men's & Women's) and Softball (Men's) have historically served as the primary anchor events of the annual WMSU Palaro. These flagship team sports draw thousands of student spectators, unite college delegations across departments, foster school pride, and showcase high-level athletic talent.
Omitting these specific disciplines from the Palaro 2026 roster deprives hundreds of student athletes of their primary competitive platform. Years of training, collegiate athletic development, and team preparation are compromised, leaving college delegations without representation in the university's most celebrated sporting events.
As the supreme student governing body, the University Student Council holds the mandate to champion student welfare and defend collegiate sports opportunities. By passing an emergency resolution, the USC can formally ensure student athlete voices are recognized prior to finalizing Palaro schedules.
